WordPress.com’s parent company, Automattic, has unveiled a new tool to help publishers post their content as Instant Articles on Facebook.

By activating the plugin, you’ll have a compliant feed of Posts, wrapping your core content in the markup Facebook requires.

According to Paul Maiorana, vice president of Platform Services at Automattic  “ it takes 30 seconds. You check a box and install plugin, and from there you have an Instant Articles feed ready to go” (The Wall Street Journal) . The plugin for Facebook Instant Articles is free and you can install it from GitHub.

Facebook mentioned in a post that it worked with “a small group of publishers on WordPress” like Foreign Policy and Tribune Media’s Zap2it, to beta test the plugin. The plugin “ supports native autoplay video as well as social and interactive graphic embeds” points out Facebook in the same post.

In it’s own post, Automattic noted that anyone who uses the plugin will have to go through Facebook’s review process “where they verify that all Instant Articles generated from your website are properly formatted and adhere to their community standards and content policies before you’ll be able to start pushing content to the platform.”

Since Automattic is making the plugin open source, the WordPress community can contribute to it and improve it. “The plugin is open source, and we encourage the community to participate in its development to help publishers of all types take full advantage of the fast, native experience of Instant Articles.” Facebook said. “We will continue to iterate the plugin over the coming weeks and look forward to collaborating with the WordPress community to improve the experience.”

Finally, Instant Articles will be available for publishers “of any size, anywhere in the world” on April 12, 2016, when Facebook holds its annual F8 conference .
